First and foremost, the 2006 Jeep Commander is all about safety features. Specific and special to the Commander is a special, electronic roll mitigation system. Using several sensors, it works to deploy the optional side curtain air bags in the event of a rollover or a side impact accident.

Other important safety features include an Electronic Stability program, which comes standard, traction control, and an anti lock brakes system. Standard 2006 Jeep Commanders come with a 210 horsepower, 3.7 liter V6 engine, but there is an option for a two hundred and thirty five horsepower, 4.8 liter V8, which is the standard engine on the 2006 Commander Limited model.

For four-wheel drive Limited models, drivers also have the option of selecting a three hundred and thirty horsepower, 5.7 liter Hemi V8 engine. This engine features displacement-on-demand, which is designed to shut down half of the cylinders during less intense driving situations. All three engines are paired with a five speed automatic transmission.
